Growing a Local History Museum
Historical
societies, friends groups, and boards in communities all over
Local History
Museum, a program offered through Preservation Program, will explore the issues and obstacles to making that happen.
Case studies and guest speakers cover topics including formation of a mission statement and strategic planning, applying for grants, building restoration and adaptive reuse, developing education programs, curatorial and archival responsibilities, marketing and fund-raising. The workshop includes a field trip to a local history museum and hosts an opportunity for the formation of an individual historic site action plan.
