Coverage and Pictures of the March League Meeting

The bright (and seasonably chilly) morning of March 13, 2004 saw the Haddon Heights Historical Society

play host to the Spring meeting of the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey in the Haddon Heights

First United Methodist Church.

While the members of the League munched on a breakfast served by volunteers and the Haddon Heights

High School National Honor Society, League President (and Haddon Heights Historical Society VP) Bob

Hunter opened the meeting.  He was followed by Heights Mayor Susan Griffith, who gave a brief speech and

led the room in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The officers of the League each got up in turn to conduct their

respective business, finally giving up the floor to Margaret Westfield of the Heights Heritage League, who

showed a slide presentation highlighting the importance and effectiveness of historical preservation in town.

Following Margaret's talk, the members of the League were led elsewhere in the building for a presentation

on the history of the Methodist Church in Heights.  Upon their return, they were greeted by a lunch again

served by volunteers and the High School Honor Society.

After the meeting ended, several members of the Haddon Heights Historical Society took League members

on a tour of three historical homes of the Borough, and their day ended with a discussion in the Ritz Theater

about the forthcoming restoration of the building.
